If youre looking for hardy travel gear with prodigious protection, Victorinox now offers an extra incentive. ‘Tired’ Hikers Could Face $25K Fine for Needless Rescue That Diverted Firefighters
Even in a time of rampant wildfires, the blaze that scorched Canadas Jasper National Park this summer was exceptional. It was the largest fire the park had seen in 100 years, consuming one-third of all buildings in the nearby town of Jasper. The national park was evacuated in July, and remained closed to visitors in September. But on September 10...

Stomping Bolts at Jackson Hole: Boarders Blow WY Cold Smoke in New TGR Edit
Theres nothing quite like hitting powder days at Jackson Hole on an above average year of snowfall. Thats especially true if youre a professional shredder for Teton Gravity Research (TGR) with carte blanche to rip the mountain up like confetti and a camera crew to capture all the action. Last year, Cam FitzPatrick, Cooper Branham, and Yuki Kadono did just...
2025 Kia Carnival Review: Tougher Looks, Hybrid Efficiency
The Kia Carnival already stood out in the minivan segment by not driving like a minivan. The 2025 Carnival refresh makes it not look like a minivan, either. I went to the mountains east of San Diego to check out the changes to this people-mover and to test out its new hybrid system, which promises 50% better fuel economy than...

The Best Dropper Posts of 2024
Dropper posts allow us to adjust our saddle height with the push of a lever, helping to enhance comfort, efficiency, and, most importantly, control while out on the trail. Many people would argue that dropper posts are one of the most important innovations in mountain bike technology — essentially transforming the way we ride. The ability to adjust the height...
Meet the Women Who Decide What Climbing Gear Hits Shelves
I was the fly on the wall at meetings as three young women decided on the products shoppers will see at local climbing shops in 2025. There were spreadsheets on computers and diagrams on projection screens. Samples of yet-to-be-released gear made laps around the conference room in Bellevue, Wash. REIs Sarah Kendzior, Backcountry.coms Andrea Palmer, and MECs Kim McGrenere were...
Final Race: TransRockies Run to End After 17 Years
The 2025 Ortholite TransRockies Run will be the races final event. After 17 years, the race, which traverses some of the most scenic mountain landscapes in the state, is indefinitely shutting down. Rising costs and challenges associated with permits put the nail in the coffin for this popular annual event. We are incredibly proud of what TransRockies Run has achieved...

My Favorite Trekking Poles: LEKI Black Series FX Carbon 100-Mile Test
It was somewhere around the sixth day of the iconic Tour du Mont Blanc that I made up my mind: The LEKI Black Series FX Carbon trekking poles were the best. Before that day, my wife and I had traded poles between these and another brand daily. And while both were good, the LEKIs rose to the top rather quickly....
