Patagonia
Black Hole Duffel 100L (Fall 2023)
$175.20
Description

Classic super-durable duffel, now with recycled fabric

Patagonia's largest Black Hole duffel. Highly weather-resistant and stubbornly tough, it protects your gear from travel and rough handling. The main compartment opens via a zippered U-shaped lid, which has a pair of zip-closing mesh pockets on the underside for easily misplaced items like your headlamp, toothbrush and spork. A zippered exterior pocket holds all the stuff you need to access quickly. The padded bottom panel adds structure and helps cushion the load when your duffel gets the baggage-handler treatment. There are padded removable shoulder straps for a backpack carrying option, webbing handles with a snap closure and haul loops at either end that facilitate linking multiple bags. Four daisy chains let you lash additional gear to the outside. Made from burly, 900-denier 100% postconsumer recycled polyester ripstop with a TPU-film laminate and lined with 200-denier 100% recycled polyester with a polyurethane coating. Both fabrics have a DWR (durable water repellent) finish.

Footprint sold separately.

Saving Shames: In ‘Heart of a Mountain,’ a Community Rallies Around Its Local Ski Hill
Mom-and-pop ski areas seem to be getting scarcer by the year. Maintaining the high cost of operation is tough, especially for small business owners who dont have a corporate bankroll. In many cases, like at Shames Mountain Ski Area, it eventually becomes too much for the owners to uphold. Without some kind of saving grace, in 2008, this local Canadian...
Conquer Icy Trails with These Favorite Slip-On Spikes for Running Shoes
In the foothills of Colorado, winter creates a wide range of (sometimes dangerous) running conditions. The one I like to avoid the most is the indoor treadmill. I’m an outdoor animal. Like my yellow lab, Lulu, I sleep and lounge indoors but need to breathe fresh air, run on a natural surface, and be among the trees to ensure consistent...

There are more electrified cars and trucks on the market today than ever before, and many of them are designed, engineered, and capable of towing a substantial amount...
I Tried the Viral Sea Moss Smoothie. It Wasn’t Worth the $20.
A few months ago, I went to Los Angeles for a long weekend with my friend Becca to visit her relatives and soak in some sunshine. We both live in Bozeman, Montana and wanted to take a quick break in balmy southern California during the long, frigid northern winter. Los Angeles tends to be at the vanguard of any health...

I Just Like Standing on Summits. All Summits.
My wife, Hilary, was essentially handing me a gift, and I didn’t know what to do with it: She was taking our toddler, Jay, to the Oregon coast for a week, and I was invited to not join them. Meaning: I had a full week to do anything I wanted, for the first time since Jay was born 14 months...
Bringing the Right Traction Could Save Your Winter Hike—or Your Life
Next to not bringing enough warm enough layers and forgetting to check the weather, hitting the trail without appropriate traction is among the most common and dangerous mistakes that hikers make in the winter. It’s one that’s easy to miss until it’s too late, too: Trails that climb from lower elevations  may be bare at the beginning but covered in...
How to Improve Your Belaytionship
My whole perspective on “belaytionships” (and how to improve them) changed when a friend referred to the task as a “sacred duty.” It’s common to view our turn on the ground as nothing more than filler time between pitches, or worse: a burden that we must bear in exchange for the joys of climbing. But belaying is more than just...
A Skier Is Suing Vail Resorts After a Patrol Strike Disrupted Operations at Park City
It’s always a bummer when your vacation doesn’t go as planned. Still, a spoiled trip isn’t often cause for legal action. But for Christopher Bisaillon, a guest at Park City Mountain Resort in Utah over the holidays—where operations were disrupted as a result of the ski patrol union strike—the distance was just too great between the vacation he’d planned and...
Veteran Lands 700-Lb. Bear in First Louisiana Hunt in 35 Years
A 54-year-old Army veteran just harvested one of the biggest black bears in Louisiana state history. Born and raised in the Sportsmans Paradise, Deron Santiny thought hed seen just about everything among Louisianas varied hunting and fishing opportunities. But then came Dec. 17, when Santiny watched a 696-pound black bear saunter out of the Tensas Parish woods and into the...

The Hottest Trend in Knives: Everything You Need to Know About Pocket Fixed Blades
There’s always something new trending in the knife world, and thats doubly true when it comes to the everyday carry and outdoor enthusiast crowds. New knife steels are a prime example: We’re in a phase where affordable knives meet higher standards and with more premium materials. But very rarely do we see an entirely new knife category. One might assume...
