This Belgian Climber Reached the Top of Denali by Boat, Bike, and Foot
One of the first ascents of 20,310-foot Denali in 2024 was completed in truly eccentric style. When a Belgian climber named Jelle Veyt reached the summit on May 12, he completed a human-powered trek that had begun 18 months earlier. Veyt left his home in Belgium during the first week of October, 2022, and rode his bicycle to coastal France,...
Big Innovation, Compact Package: Evolution Outdoors Ibex Hinge Release Review
Archery hunting with a hinge-style release aid isn’t anything new, but the popularity of doing so is definitely on the rise. Hinges don’t fail and provide nice, clean shots time and time again. With that said, hinge releases have been at a bit of a standstill in terms of innovation and often fall short in terms of practicality for hunting...
Famed Mountaineer Nims Purja Clashes With Nepali Govt. Over Everest ‘Rope Cutting’ Controversy
Even on a mountain known for complex politics, the latest Mount Everest kerfuffle is strange. It started on Sunday when Nirmal Nims Purja posted a video on Instagram claiming that someone had cut a line of fixed ropes set up by his expedition company, Elite Exped. That would be a major problem, as many expeditions share the ropes to take...

The Backpacking Luxury Item We Can’t Leave Behind: REI Co-op Flexlite Air Chair Review
I get it. Sometimes, it’s hard to justify packing a camp chair on a backpacking trip. It seems like a luxury item we might not have space for, choosing to sit uncomfortably on a slanting log, awkward boulder, or in the dirt hunched over our camp stove. But these days, it becomes easier and easier to justify when a chair...
2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally Review: Big Smiles in Sloppy Conditions
The windshield wipers are slapping as hard as a happy Labrador retriever’s tail. Still, I can barely see through the muck and mud on my windshield as I slide sideways around a corner at the Dirtfish Rally School. It’s a good thing I’m driving the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally edition. That’s the latest version of the Detroit automaker’s all-electric...
14 Years Old and Still the King of Coolers: YETI Tundra 45 Review
If you’re looking for the best-performing, mid-sized cooler on the market, you can’t go wrong with the Tundra 45 ($325) from YETI. The biggest downside is the hefty price tag, but for its excellent performance, reliability, and durability, it could be the last cooler you buy. The Tundra 45 is a great size for a weekend camping trip. It could...
Blind Climber Completes Historic Trad Ascent on Devils Tower
El Matador is a 5.10d classic endurance stemming route on Devils Tower. Many trad climbers find it challenging, but imagine if you headed up without using your eyes. British climber Jesse Dufton did just that last week, recording the first blind trad lead on the iconic formation. Dufton led all the hard pitches, placing his own gear, and he took...
‘They’re Calling Me a Liar’: Nims Purja Posts Video to Prove Foul Play Atop Everest
Did someone cut the fixed rope used by hundreds of climbers to ascend Mount Everest? Thats the claim made by Nirmal Nims Purja, an expedition leader who said his team members discovered the sliced rope during a summit push on Monday. Later that day, another team successfully reached the summit using the fixed ropes, leading to accusations that Purja had...
Artisan Cutlery Satyr Knife Review: Contender for the Crown
If you have been around the knife world at all in the past 31 years, you’re aware of the sway the Sebenza has on the knife market. It is the benchmark by which all other high-end production folders are judged. Its simple shape and strong titanium framelock have appealed to knife knuts from the very beginning. As a result, lots of brands...
