Description

When you need breathable single-wall protection for extreme multi-day expeditions, the two-person Rab Latok Mountain is your go-to tent.

This Bag Survived Our Move to New Zealand: Patagonia Black Hole Wheeled 100L Duffel Review
Packing light does not come naturally to me. I’m (regrettably) the person breaking a sweat to shove their too-full carry-on into the overhead compartment, the one who throws an extra eight items into the backseat seconds before pulling out of the driveway for a road trip. So, when my husband, son, and I decided to uproot our lives in Colorado...
We’re Gifting $25,000 to This Life
The nonprofit Youth Sports Alliance charges scholarship recipients $50 for five weeks of ski gear, transportation, and lessons in Utah’s Wasatch Valley. Sounds like a steal, right? That’s what YSA executive director Emily Fisher thought, too, when she first arrived on staff six years ago. Then she got to work. It was 2017, and Fisher was at an introductory meeting,...
Cody Townsend Ends Massive ‘FIFTY Project’ at 46: Questions Swirl Around Unexpected Conclusion
In 2010, Chris Davenport, Art Burrows, and Penn Newhard published the first edition of The 50 Classic Ski Descents in North America. Fourteen years later, professional skier Cody Townsend is wrapping up the first documented attempt to backcountry ski every single one of them. On March 20, 2024, Townsend halted the eponymous FIFTY Project after his 46th descent. And followers...
World’s Most Famous Balloon Is Now Part of a Luxury Watch
If you happened to be reading the news in March 1999 (almost certainly on physical paper, no kidding), one story would have probably been below the fold on page one. And that would have been the story ofBertrand Piccard,Brian Jones, and the Breitling Orbiter 3. On March 1, 1999, Piccard and Jones launched from theSwisstown ofChâteau-dOex. The duo spent the...
How to improve your Ironman swim
The Ironman swim (3.8km) is less than 10% of the race, and it’s this fact that often encourages age-groupers, who are good bikers and/or runners, to move up to the longer distance. If you asked age-group Ironman (IM) athletes to rate the relative importance of the disciplines, it may be something like this: 42% run, 44% bike and 14% swim....
How to improve endurance doing shorter swim reps
Even the shortest triathlons are endurance events. That’s why triathletes spend most of their training time performing endurance swim activities.Longer is better! And as most triathletes are aware, this can be a really effective strategy for cycling and running. The longer you go, the better you get. It’s no surprise then that many triathletes take the same approach to their swimming. The problem...
The 14 Best Sunglasses for 2024
Last fall, we gathered a crew of Lake Tahoe, California-based testers with a range of interests—trail running, cycling, fly-fishing, climbing, nordic skiing, and more—gave each several pairs of sunglasses, and told them to play hard. They broke frames, fogged up lenses, and put the more than five dozen shades to the test on trails, roads, and water. This collection of...
From Laws to Licenses: The Essential Guide to Flying Drones in the Great Outdoors
Outdoor lovers often balk at bringing ever more technology into the outdoors — but as I learned when field-testing a new drone, an eye in the sky can add fun and improve access to outdoor spaces. But its imperative to do so respectfully by following drone laws and regulations. So, when bringing drones into the great outdoors, there are two...

The company has teased the idea of wading into the water with the upcoming onX Fish. The new app will be available in Minnesota this spring and will slowly expand across the Midwest. By adding TroutRoutes to the...

There are now brands dedicated to finding the perfect balance between fit and function for women’s workwear. Gone are the days of needing to buy pants too big so our hips would fit, but...

Beloved CO Mountain Finally Caves, Will Charge Visitors to Park in 2024
Arapahoe Basin will start charging for all parking lots for the first time. Every lot at the Colorado resort will now be $20 (at least) per vehicle on weekends and holidays, and reservations will be required. Last year, the ski area was purchased by Alterra Mountain Company, owner of the Ikon Pass and Aspen Mountain, and the primary competitor to...
