How Milkweed Inn Challenged My Idea of Food
It’s not that I don’t like food. I do. I carry frozen cheesecakes on winter expeditions. They’re caloric and they don’t freeze hard, so you can bite off chunks without chipping your teeth. I once ate the same dead catfish boiled over a fire for three days. Was it good? Absolutely not. I like cardamom, snap peas, and Asian pears....
Making Thanksgiving Dinner Doesn’t Have to be Stressful. Here’s What You Need to Know.
I used to have a recurring dream in which I’m sitting on my mat awaiting instructions from a panel of my yoga teachers. I’m at an Iyengar yoga assessment, for which I’m completely unprepared. And I am terrified. After what seems like an eternity, they tell me my task: I’m to carve a Thanksgiving turkey right there on my mat...
Insulation Recycled From Climbing Ropes: Sender IN Hooded Jacket With LOOPINSULATION Review
Insulated jackets come in a range of different weights, and I own a lot of them. I have light PrimaLoft midlayers that pack down into their own pockets. Ive got burly goose feather parkas that I reserve only for the coldest days. Then theres everything in between, from insulated vests to waterproof down ski jackets and midweight insulated hoodies. Id...

The 2024 Sweat Science Holiday Book List
Nothing says “winter holidays” to me like the combo of a cold day, a warm fire, a soft couch, and a book. If you’re looking for some couch material—or gift ideas for the endurance people in your life—here are the books I’ve enjoyed most this year that fit with the general themes of Sweat Science. The Inner Clock, by Lynne...
How to Visit Jackson Hole on the Cheap—You Just Need to Know These Tips
Ski trips shouldn’t be relegated to the rich and even richer. We all deserve to go powder chasing midwinter without dissolving our bank accounts. But these days, finding a budget way to ski requires serious homework. You can always venture away from the headliner areas to smaller, less crowded local ski hills that want to entice visitors through budget deals,...
Watch Ganga Girls: Be Inspired to Chart Your Own Course in Life
Men generally navigate the mighty waters of the Ganga River in India professionally and for fun. The Ganga Girls program has set out to change that gender norm on navigating the river. The Ganga Girls short film highlights this program to empower local Indian girls to find self-confidence and to find both joy and a possible career on the water....
Come for the Luxurious Foam, Stay for the Longevity: adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2 Low Review
The adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2 Low reminds me of the carefree nature of being a kid on summer vacation. A bag full of snacks and a camera: the last thing on my mind was sore feet. Just like those days that seemed to never end as a kid, the Free Hiker 2 Low makes me want to keep going...
$75 Smartwatch Provides the Basics, Not Much More: Armitron Quantum Review
When Armitrons Quantum smartwatch arrived in my mailbox, I was stoked to start testing. This entry-level smartwatch seemed like a good fit for me. I have no previous experience using a watch to track my physical activity. For the past few months, Id been using AllTrails to record my outdoor life, from cycling to paddling and trail running. I liked...

Mikaela Shiffrin Crashes Out of Killington World Cup
Mikaela Shiffrin’s journey toward her 100th World Cup win took an unexpected turn on Saturday when a crash during the second run of the Killington giant slalom sidelined the ski racing legend. But while Shiffrin recovered off the slopes, the U.S. Ski Team delivered one of its strongest collective performances of the season, offering a glimmer of hope and momentum...
