Synthetic Versus Down: Which Insulation Is Right for You?
You know you need warm layers when the temperature drops. But not just any jacket will do. Choosing the right insulation for the conditions is the key to enjoying cold-weather adventures—and staying safe. Number one, you want a good warmth-to-weight ratio, and that means apparel made with either natural goose down or synthetic polyester fill. Both types of insulation are...
Watch ‘¡Ay Chihuahua!’: An Epic Mexican Exploratory Kayak Adventure
Eric Boomer and Ben Stookesberry are proven and legendary explorers, most notably for their whitewater kayak missions to the far corners of the globe. In this short film, presented by the Whitewater brand, they check off some un-paddled gems deep in Mexico. Not only are they the kayakers and safety crew, but also the film crew on this wild exploratory...
Stay Warmer, Hunt Longer: Crispi Wild Rock Plus GTX Boot Review
It doesn’t matter if my body is warm. If my feet are cold, I start squirming like a worm and can’t stay still. This doesn’t bode well for something like sitting in a treestand trying to go undetected in the whitetail woods.Insulated boots are your friend. I recently met the Crispi Wild Rock Plus GTX. We got to spend a week...

I Had My Doubts About FlyKitt. But It’s Proven Itself on Every One of My Overseas Trips.
I should be wrecked. It’s my first full day in South Africa after a brutal 33-hour journey from my home in Bend, Oregon. I woke at 3:15 A.M. to catch the first of three flights to Johannesburg, crossed nine time zones in economy class, and finally fell into bed at 9 P.M. Typically, my jet lag for such a long-haul...

Full Suspension Skiing? ShredShox Binding Platform Puts Shocks on Skis
Suspension systems are used in motorcycles, bicycles, cars, baby strollers, camp chairs, and even shoes. But why not skis? That question led Nick Foster and Ken Nichols to create ShredShox — the first and only full-suspension ski platform. Like a mountain bike uses air shocks at the front fork and tail, ShredShox uses them to suspend bindings above the ski....
New AR World Champions: French Racers Dethrone Swedish Armed Forces Team
It was pitch dark outside when Adrien Lhermet, Benjamin Fayet, Sandrine Beranger, and Sébastien Raichon crossed the Adventure Race World Championship finish line at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3. The French athletes of 400Team were muddy. They hadnt slept in 5 days. But they still had enough energy to celebrate for the cameras, embracing one another and waving Frances...

OneWheel Pint S Review: The Good, the Bad, and the Crashy
I was ready to love the new OneWheel Pint S. Though I typically gravitate toward non-electric transportation, theres an undeniable attraction to these hoverboard-like creations. As the EV marketplace has grown crowded with electrified scooters, bikes, and skateboards, OneWheel has earned —and maintained —a loyal following. And thats despite ongoing controversy over the relative safety of these devices. After four...
Snowboarding the ‘Peak of Evil’: Patagonia Athletes Shred Biggest Line of Their Lives in India
When Nick Russell and Jerry Mark heard Hillary Nelson recount the story of making her first descent on Indias Papsura (aka the Peak of Evil), they were immediately intrigued. The way it was described to them, it didnt sound like just another ski line. It sounded like a real mountaineering challenge — and the two snowboarders wanted their shot at...
