Now we are thrilled to have the answer: the Outside Festival. This June 1-2 in Denver’s Civic Center Park we are hosting a one-of-a-kind event that mashes up...
All the Gear You Need to Travel with Three Big Dogs
Laying out all of the gear I needed to road trip 6,000 miles from Montana to Baja Sur with my wife and three dogs, a thought struck me. Am I chronically over-prepared? Probably. But I figure the the least I can do for the friends (non-human and otherwise) I ask to tag along through remote, often dangerous adventures is to...
Should Wealthy Skiers Get to Buy Access to Powder Before the Lifts Open?
My Great Awakening The powder snow of Japan is so light, so iconic, it has a name: Japow. For some, that has meant relocating to a place with better outdoor access. Hordes of geographically-liberated professionals have made their way to mountain towns across the country, exacerbating pre-existing issues of housing affordability,...

I am not that curious about how to get faster as a trail runner, but I am curious about how fast people’s brains work. How Foraging Taught Me Middle
It wasn’t crossing over into my forties that felt so unsettling, it was the physical signs—subtle as they were—that made aging bloom into something real and looming. After my fortieth birthday, over the course of two years, my periods became heavier and more painful. Now, at 42, I sometimes spot between cycles. Sometimes my period comes early. Every month, days before...
