SnowDrifter 20L (Fall 2022)
$119.25
Description

Built for quick descents into the backcountry, the ambassador-driven SnowDrifter 20L has a close-fitting, freeride-oriented design that stays steady (and comfortable) on the wildest descents. It opens via a long clamshell zipper that provides fast access to the main compartment, which includes individual sleeves for your snow safety tools. Sized to carry extra layers, extra calories and other short-tour essentials, it also provides multiple ski and board carry options (as well as helmet carry) with front compression straps for boards and skis, and side compression straps for skis—all with locking cam buckles.

A separate microfleece-lined pocket keeps your goggles handy and protected from sharp edges. The clean suspension system incorporates heat-venting, snow-sloughing mesh on the shoulder straps, back panel and padded waistbelt for all-day carrying comfort; zippered stash pockets on the waistbelt hold all the items you want to keep close at hand. The top-mounted haul handle is reinforced and sized for gloves, and the hydration-system compatible design has an insulated hydration sleeve to keep liquids from freezing.

Made from 100% recycled fabrics including burly 420-denier CORDURA® 100% recycled nylon plain weave for puncture and abrasion resistance and a lining of 200-denier 100% recycled polyester plain weave. Both fabrics have a polyurethane coating and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish.

Footprint sold separately.

The Best Sleeping Bags for Camping in Comfort
As far as we’re concerned, camping near your car is all about comfort—save the rehydrated meals and paper-thin foam sleeping bags for the backcountry. And if there’s any part of your kit you shouldn’t cut corners with, it’s your bedding. The scenery always looks that much nicer after a good night of sleep. The good news about shopping for sleeping...
How Everest Was Turned into an Industry
When Will Cockrell told me he was writing a book about Mount Everest, he couldn’t see the roll of my eyes. But he’s perceptive enough to have picked up on my lukewarm commitment to being interviewed, and so I felt a need to explain that there are already quite a few Everest books out there. My coffee table is in...
Avalanches Caught 117 People in Colorado in 2024. Why Did Only Two Die?
Back in December 2023, Colorado was mired with a miserable snowpack. The ski resorts were barely open and a thin layer of rotten snow blanketed the surface of the alpine. Our editors speculated that once the storm door began to open and coverage improved, the pent-up demand in the country’s most dangerous state for avalanches would lead to a high number...

Sisay Lemma and Hellen Obiri Just Won the Boston Marathon
Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia almost did the unthinkable at the Boston Marathon on Monday morning, while American Emma Bates sure tried to. The 33-year-old Sisay not only ran away from a very strong field to win, but he briefly teased spectators and fans with an unfathomably fast pace. Lemma, who entered the race as the fourth-fastest marathoner in history (2:01:48),...
2025 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Vans: More Tech and More eSprinter Configurations
Mercedes-Benz is upgrading the tech on its Sprinter vans for 2025 with more features that should make driving the big vans easier. They should be especially helpful if youve converted your van for a high-adventure and outdoors lifestyle. The electric eSprinter is also now available with more body configurations, and while that might sound van-life-ready, its only with a new...

The Sandal of My Globetrotting Childhood: Chaco Z/1 Sandal Review
Long before I thought of myself as an outdoorsy person (or had any understanding of what that meant), I was traipsing through Aztec ruins in Mexico, swimming across jungle rivers in India, and hiking through Nepalese mountains in my trusty Chacos. In fact, I only recently learned that the companys iconic model was called the Z Sandal. To me, theyve...
Discover the Best of Asheville with Advice from Local Experts
Over the past two decades, Asheville’s reputation as one of the country’s premier adventure hubs has been built on its unique combination of terrain and culture. There just aren’t many communities like this—surrounded by nature but also serving up a deeply rooted arts and food culture. That means it’s as easy to access hiking, biking, fly-fishing, and paddling as it...
To Repel Ticks, Hikers Should Smell Like Ants
Are you going for a hike? Don’t forget your bottle of ant musk. A new scientific study suggests that some species of ticks—those Lyme Disease-spreading creepy crawlies—are scared off by pheromones produced by ants. Now, a team of researchers is working to synthetically replicate these ant excretions and sell them as tick repellent. Because unlike DEET or Citronella or other...
Pit Vipers Exciters: Thru-Hiker Tested, Hurricane Approved
Cycling, rock climbing, labwork, construction, running, and thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail: My Pit Vipers Exciters have done it all.
