Utah is stacked when it comes to outdoor adventure. Not only does the state have some of the country’s most badass skiing and mountain biking, but it also boasts the nation’s third most national parks in any state, which include some of the world’s best hiking trails. These protected meccas—Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, and Zion, known as the...
Mom With Medals: Olympian Jamie Anderson Proves Parents Still Shred
After taking more than a year off for pregnancy and having her firstborn, and then standing down from the 2024 X Games in January, 33-year-old Jamie Anderson competed in the 2024 Natural Selection Tour (NST) — and podiumed. At the backcountry snowboard competition, athletes descend unmanicured terrain with sizable, gnarly features from cliffs to spines and pillows. Each athlete chooses their...
Is AG1 Really a Miracle Nutrient?
Years ago, I had a roommate who worked out every day and would also consume Dionysian amounts of Entenmanns cake. My kind of guy. We got along, in part, because of a shared conviction that the pursuit of physical fitness didn’t preclude putting away vast quantities of processed sugar. Not to brag, but in my prime I could eat an...
Synthetic vs. Down: Which Insulation is Right for You?
You know you need warm layers when the temperature drops. But not just any jacket will do. Choosing the right insulation for the conditions is the key to enjoying cold-weather adventures—and staying safe. Number one, you want a good warmth-to-weight ratio, and that means apparel made with either natural goose down or synthetic polyester fill. Both types of insulation are...

Do ‘Trail Stuff’ With a ‘Race Bike’: Specialized Epic 8 Pro Mountain Bike Review
Specialized bills its Epic 8 Pro mountain bike as the “fastest XC bike in the world” and “a wolf in wolf’s clothing. And there’s no mistake that this thing is fast. Weighing 23 pounds, 15.4 ounces for a medium, it’s the lightest trail bike I’ve pedaled. Transitioning from training rides on my trusty but burly steel frame Surly Bridge Club...
Columbia Turns to the Dark Side: ‘Vader Collection’ Marks Biggest Star Wars Drop Yet
Columbias annual Star Wars-themed gear drops have become an annual tradition. But despite being familiar, the outdoor brand still manages to one-up itself each year —and 2024 looks no different. Just in time for the holidays, Columbia unveils its biggest collab effort with the Star Wars universe yet —and its a doozie. Launching today, the Vader Collection presents a 15-piece,...

Not only does this Jeep celebrate the 1941 Willys MB, the Jeep that started it all, but was heavily influenced by the 41 Concept, which...
A Colorado Company Wants to Change the Way Hikers Poop in the Backcountry
This past summer, hikers on Colorados highest peak, 14,438-foot Mount Elbert, were met by a peculiar welcome committee. Volunteers from Colorado Fourteeners Initiative handed out WAG bags near a padlocked receptacle marked “human waste pack-out bags only.” On some days, a researcher from Penn State University stopped visitors to ask questions about—you guessed it—poop. Called Clean 14, the infrastructure was...

So You Want to Go Heli-Skiing: What to Expect, How to Prepare, and Gear to Pack
I could feel the percussive thump of the rotors in my chest. I knelt in the snow, crouching among my group. Everyone held their jackets high enough to shield their faces from the artificial wind and swirling snow. We watched the bird, unwilling to take our eyes away from what was arguably one of the coolest moments every time. With our...
