The North Face FUTUREFLEECE Review: Uber-Breathable Fleece Might Really Be the Future
The North Face FUTUREFLEECE Hoodie got to me just in time to be worn for an evening ski tour. I had been waiting to get a layer to wear skinning, skiing, and hiking as spring temperatures started to rise, and the FUTUREFLEECE vowed to not only keep me warm but also breathe — a promise many fleeces fail to keep. I...
Fish Scale Wetsuit, Truck Camper Kit, Alpaca Parka, and More Emerging Gear
Every time I think well have a slow week, the outdoor industry shows its got another idea up its puffy sleeve. Once again, weve got plenty of winter gear for facing off against inclement weather, including an upgraded parka made from alpaca fiber, backcountry ski wraps, and even technical jackets that partner with college sports teams. But we like to...

Climbers Rejoice as National Park Service Nixes Plan to Ban Fixed Anchors
Climbers worried about the future of their sport in wilderness areas can take a big sigh of relief. Climbing advocates had fought against the proposal since November 2023, when the NPS first announced the...
This Is the Last Place You Should Wear Whole-Body Deodorant
I couldn’t tell you where I was when I first saw Secret’s whole-body deodorant commercial, but I can tell you it has followed me everywhere since—from Instagram to YouTube to my household’s patchwork of streaming services. “Wanna know a secret? More than just my armpits stink,” a woman deadpans straight into the camera. Then, a chorus of women cheerfully extolls...

It’s an attitude shared—a friendly hello to fellow hikers and a deeper respect for the culture and landscape...

Mikaela Shiffrin on Ski Racing, Impalements, and How She Burns Through 80 Skis a Season
Flames roared in a fireplace while I waited quietly in Mikaela Shiffrins basement. Christmas decor was up, and workout and recovery tools lay scattered about. The other four journalists and I had been urged to remove our shoes and speak only in whispers while we waited for our turn to interview the two-time Olympic gold medalist, five-time Overall World Cup...
