Blurred Lines: Van Life Inspired Overland UTV
A Polaris XPEDITION gets a custom makeover by DRACO UTV for adventure photographer Quin Schrock. Inspired by a Sprinter camper van build, this custom UTV is set up to tackle rough terrain, carry a ton of gear, and provide a full host of living systems. Yes, it even comes with a kitchen sink. It actually has a full slide-out kitchen...
Finally, a Climbing Shoe for Most of Us: Evolv V6 Review
Evolv caters to mid-level rock jocks with its V6 rock shoe, straddling the vast ability levels between beginner and advanced. The shoe has attributes that can carry a rock climber moving beyond the lowest grades but not yet ready for super-tight, downturned, soft, and relatively unstructured shoes that heavily seasoned climbers tend to prefer. I tested the Evolv V6 for...

2025 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Vans: More Tech and More eSprinter Configurations
Mercedes-Benz is upgrading the tech on its Sprinter vans for 2025 with more features that should make driving the big vans easier. They should be especially helpful if youve converted your van for a high-adventure and outdoors lifestyle. The electric eSprinter is also now available with more body configurations, and while that might sound van-life-ready, its only with a new...
Discover the Best of Asheville with Advice from Local Experts
Over the past two decades, Asheville’s reputation as one of the country’s premier adventure hubs has been built on its unique combination of terrain and culture. There just aren’t many communities like this—surrounded by nature but also serving up a deeply rooted arts and food culture. That means it’s as easy to access hiking, biking, fly-fishing, and paddling as it...
To Repel Ticks, Hikers Should Smell Like Ants
Are you going for a hike? Don’t forget your bottle of ant musk. A new scientific study suggests that some species of ticks—those Lyme Disease-spreading creepy crawlies—are scared off by pheromones produced by ants. Now, a team of researchers is working to synthetically replicate these ant excretions and sell them as tick repellent. Because unlike DEET or Citronella or other...

The Sandal of My Globetrotting Childhood: Chaco Z/1 Sandal Review
Long before I thought of myself as an outdoorsy person (or had any understanding of what that meant), I was traipsing through Aztec ruins in Mexico, swimming across jungle rivers in India, and hiking through Nepalese mountains in my trusty Chacos. In fact, I only recently learned that the companys iconic model was called the Z Sandal. To me, theyve...
The 11 Best Road Trips in the World
I love a good road trip, especially in the mountains of Colorado, where I live. It’s when I do some of the best creative thinking, and it feels like the possibilities for exploration are endless. Should I hike a fourteener tomorrow? Cross the border into Utah to go mountain biking? I scoured the globe to put together this list of...
The Best Tents for Camping in Comfort and Style
Stooping in a lightweight, minimalist, backpacking tent while camping out of your car isn’t much fun. Neither is getting blown over in a flimsy, big-box-store mega shelter. With that in mind, we tested seven new larger camping tents this past year in a quest to find the most luxurious, well-designed, and storm-worthy camping tents for lounging in style, no matter...
Pit Vipers Exciters: Thru-Hiker Tested, Hurricane Approved
Cycling, rock climbing, labwork, construction, running, and thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail: My Pit Vipers Exciters have done it all. After ditching everyday glasses for contacts, I discovered the Exciters more than 6 years ago. I needed sunglasses to keep me safe from UV (and potentially flying objects). After several years of testing different shades, Im convinced the Pit Viper Exciters...
Sisay Lemma and Hellen Obiri Just Won the Boston Marathon
Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia almost did the unthinkable at the Boston Marathon on Monday morning, while American Emma Bates sure tried to. The 33-year-old Sisay not only ran away from a very strong field to win, but he briefly teased spectators and fans with an unfathomably fast pace. Lemma, who entered the race as the fourth-fastest marathoner in history (2:01:48),...
