The king of special editions is at it again. The latest limited-edition Jeep Wrangler is called the 4xe Backcountry, and it adds some off-road goodies to the Sahara trim.
Its a bit of a puzzler, because while it comes with some parts you almost definitely want, it is missing some of the Rubicons best. And, its significantly more expensive than the all-out Rubi.
2025 Wrangler 4xe Backcountry: What It Does Doesnt Offer
(Photo/Jeep) Well start with what the 4xe Backcountry does have. It comes with steel bumpers front and rear, as well as rock rails and a Mopar grille guard. The package includes 32-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires on 20-inch wheels. It also has graphics on the hood, fender, and tailgate.
Backcountry includes some tech goodies as well. Like a front TrailCam to see the path ahead of you, a Power Box that adds two 120V outlets, nine-speaker Alpine audio, and Trails Offroad mapping.
(Photo/Jeep) Naturally, it also has Mopar all-weather mats and a body-color hardtop. Heated seats are also included.
So, what is it missing versus the Rubicon 4xe? The models full-float Dana 44 rear axle, for a start. Plus, the Rubicons locking differentials, front sway bar disconnect, and the 4:1 ratio in the transfer case — it gets 2.72:1 instead.
How Is 4xe Backcountry Pricier Than 4xe Rubicon?
(Photo/Jeep) So why is the Backcountry $2,895 more than a Rubicon 4xe? The Rubicon doesnt come with steel bumpers or a grille guard bar. It also doesnt have heated seats, navigation, the TrailCam, or the body color roof. At least, not standard. You can add all those on, but at that point youve crossed the price of the Backcountry.
The two very different tire choices let you know where Jeep is aiming these two different models. The Backcountrys 55-series sidewalls and 20-inch wheels make this Wrangler more about looks. It will still go off-road, but it will never be as compliant as the Rubicon. The painted roof just reinforces that.
70-series sidewalls and BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires on the 17-inch wheels of the Rubicon tell you that its the one for going more places, with looks and on-road handling a distant second. Thats why it has the fabric roof as standard — no worries about scratches. The beefier driveline bits just hammer it home.
2025 Wrangler 4xe Backcountry: Availability Pricing
(Photo/Jeep) But were willing to bet plenty of buyers will want what the Backcountry offers. Jeep expects that at least 5,800 people will, because thats how many it is building. Order books are open now, and the price starts from $64,290 plus destination.
Backcountry, if youre counting, makes eight models in the Wrangler 4xe lineup. The PHEV delivers 21 miles of electric range, 375 horsepower, and 470 pound-feet of torque.
