I bought my first high-quality down sleeping bag in the late 1990s while working as a salesperson at Midwest Mountaineering in Minneapolis. That sleeping bag, a Marmot Pinnacle with 600-fill down, took me nearly 6 months to save for, even with a substantial discount.
Nearly 30 years since, do I regret the investment? Hell, no! That sleeping bag is in my gear cave today, and I still sleep in it dozens of nights a year. At this point, its one of the best investments of my life.
The lesson here is that a really good down sleeping bag serves as one of the best investments youll ever make in outdoor gear. And accordingly, they are, well, expensive.
So, with Black Friday sales rolling around, I scoured the web for some fantastic deals. Get one for a friend you really, really like. Or just grab one for yourself and be comfortable for the next, oh, 40 years.
Black Friday Sleeping Bag Deals I started out by finding some early deals. Score these if you can, as who knows what will happen with supply chains these days? And check back next week, as Ill update this story as more deals come online.
Also, note that I focused on the best down sleeping bags here. I highly prefer down sleeping bags because they have the highest warmth-to-weight ratio available.
They also compress better than synthetic sleeping bags and last basically forever. But if you use a bag in persistently wet conditions, or prefer a vegan product for any number of reasons, there are also many deals on synthetic bags now, too.

Rab Mythic Ultra 360 Sleeping Bag (20F Down): 25% Off
The Rab Mythic Ultra is a fabulous sleeping bag. Weve tested it extensively and love the featherweight design stuffed with incredibly high-quality 900-fill down. It packs down tiny, weighs just 1.53 ounces, and will keep you warm down to about 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
This is one of the more premium sleeping bags you can buy, and it carries a hefty $650 price tag. But wait! Thanks to Black Friday, its priced down to $487. Still pricey? Yes, but worth it. Care for it well, and it should still work great in 2063.

The Big Agnes Torchlight is a perfect sleeping bag for so much of the year. Rated at 20 degrees F, its the perfect bag for the mountains from spring through fall. It can stretch into winter use in much of the country.
It weighs 2 pounds 12 ounces for a regular size and will be ideal for cooler hikes in your backpack. It uses 600-fill power down, which is a good value in a brand-name bag. Grab one and be ready for camping for most of the year.
Shop Now Big Agnes Torchlight UL Sleeping Bag (20F Down): 30% Off
No, this is not a typo. The Torchlight UL is a very different sleeping bag from the Torchlight, but with a very similar name. The UL version takes the specs into the ultralight stratosphere, with 850-fill down, ultralight ripstop polyester, and a light taffeta lining to disperse moisture.
The result is a 20-degree sleeping bag weighing less than 2.5 pounds. Its a fantastic sleeping bag for backpacking, and the 20-degree rating is very versatile. Save more than $100 at 30% off.
Shop Now Mountain Hardwear Phantom GORE-TEX Sleeping Bag (-20F Down): 30% Off
Heres a sleeping bag meant for the icy fangs of winter. Rated to 0 degrees F, the Mountain Hardwear Phantom GORE-TEX sleeping bag is a premier cocoon for cold weather. Loaded with 850-fill down, the GORE-TEX WINDSTOPPER fabric shell blocks external moisture and wind, making for an ideal bag for winter mountaineering or other cold-weather adventures.
But even with this warm goodness, the bag weighs just 3 pounds, 5 ounces. And it packs down to about twice the size of a Nalgene bottle. For those who will take their winter camping into the cold, frozen backcountry, this is a strong contender for a good nights sleep in frigid conditions.
Shop Now The North Face One Sleeping Bag (5-40 F): 40% Off
Wed be remiss to leave out another stellar bag from The North Face, called the One. For years, this bag ranked high on the top of our list of best sleeping bags. Why? Its one of the most versatile bags weve ever tested.
The One includes two different options for layering and functions with three distinct temperature ratings depending on how you combine the 800-fill down insulation layer, the midlayer, and the top layer. Plus, the stuff sack is lined with fleece, so it can double as a camp pillow. All in all, it offers a ton of comfort and warmth in a clever package.
