Nissan Makes a Cultural Culinary Cutter: Z NISMO Precision Sushi Knife

While not a katana, like the shape the roofline is modeled after on the Nissan Z, the limited-edition Z NISMO Precision Sushi Knife is one impressive blade. For the first time, Nissan is bringing its precision manufacturing ethos to the culinary world. It has partnered with Japanese knife maker Kiryu and famous sushi chef Hiroyuki “Chef Hiro” Terada to develop this special knife.

Nissan says it is a handcrafted design that fuses automotive engineering with centuries-old Japanese craftsmanship.

A black-lacquered box houses this precision instrument. The lid carries the Nissan logo and Hiroyiki Terada name on the outside. Inside the lid are the six generations of Z car logos and their start years.

(Photo/Nissan) Each Z NISMO Precision Sushi Knife is handcrafted in Japan by Kiryu. The blade is matte black, double-beveled, and 210mm long. It is made of VG10 Core Clad steel, which is sharp like carbon steel and has strong rust resistance like stainless steel. Each blade is engraved with the unique production number and carries Chef Hiros signature, Kiryus logo, and the Z logo.

A buffalo horn handle with a red spacer — inspired by the Z NISMOs red accents — finishes off this beautiful piece of sporty cutlery.

  Hands-On, No Fingers Lost

(Photo/Bryon Dorr) Nissan was kind enough to send me one of these rare blades. Mine is number 35 of 240.

The packaging makes it feel special and helps tie it to the Nissan Z brand. The knife itself is extremely lightweight and very sharp.

If you need a knife in the kitchen to prep a wide range of foods in style, with speed and precision, the Z NISMO Sushi Knife is a great option.

With less than 240 of them up for grabs, as Nissan obviously sent out a few to media, there is likely to be high demand and very limited supply.

The sushi knife retails for $300.23 and is exclusively available online through NISMO Parts USA.
